Holiday cottages, Mapua, Nelson, New Zealand.
Matahua Cottages are three self-contained holiday homes on the shore of the beautiful Waimea Inlet, near Mapua village.
Karaka, Miro and Rata were built in the 1950's as accommodation for apple pickers during the summer fruit harvest. Our organic property is a mix of fruit trees, vineyard, gardens, and regenerating native New Zealand bush which stretches around the estuary shore.
The cottages are well equipped for the simple pleasures of a relaxing holiday with hammocks, good books, board games, barbecues, braziers and endless views to gaze at. On a full tide you can explore the quiet estuary by kayak or paddle board.
Located in the heart of the Tasman region and surrounded by the vineyards of Nelson’s wine country, the accommodation at Matahua makes an ideal base for day trips around the region to the Abel Tasman, Kahurangi and Nelson Lakes National Parks. The Nelson/Tasman region has endless choices for day trips to wineries, markets, galleries, and artists’ studios. We are just 2 km from the Great Taste Tasman Cycle Trail. There is a wide range of outdoor pursuits to choose from, including hiking, cycling, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, and fishing. There are also many beautiful rivers and beaches for swimming and picnicking. Canyoning, caving, kite boarding, and sky diving are options for the adventurous.
The cottages are secluded and private, and also extremely accessible; just 20 minutes (24km) from Nelson airport and less than 5 minutes to the coastal village of Mapua. Mapua’s thriving wharf area has cafés, restaurants and galleries representing local artists.
