The drive down Apple Valley Road (east) towards Miro and Karaka Cottages Miro + Karaka Cottages |
Location![]() Situated at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, Nelson City has an airport with frequent flights to and from the major cities around the country and connecting flights to smaller centres. It is a 35 minute flight to Wellington or 30 minutes to Christchurch for connecting international flights. It takes approximately 20 minutes (24 km) to drive to the cottages from Nelson airport. If you are travelling by car from the North Island, there is a car and passenger ferry between Wellington and Picton which is in the Marlborough Sounds. The drive from Picton to Mapua takes appoximately 2.5 hours (140 km). Traveling West from Nelson, Matahua is the last peninsula on the Waimea Inlet before you reach the village of Mapua. The cottages are half a Kilometre from the main coastal road which connects Nelson City with Golden Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park (State Highway 60). We are located at the very end of Apple Valley Road (East). Turn right into Apple Valley Road East from State Highway 60. This turn off is 1.6 km after the Bronte Peninsula turn off. You'll pass two old cottages on either side of the road. Continue and drive down the hill towards the estuary. Pass a white house on the right. Drive through the gate which says "private road" and has number 43 on the post. Continue till you arrive at our grey house which is on your right. If there are sheds in front of you and a large Phoenix Palm tree above you, you are at the right place. We will show you to the cottages from here. If we are out when you arrive there will be a note on the steps nearest the palm tree. |
